Boys will be boys
Up To No Good is a collection of hysterical stories from grown men
about the havoc they wreaked when they where boys. Freelance photographer
Heather Gilson and editor kitty Harmon have collaborated together
to produce a book that revels in the nature of boys. Harmon collected
boyhood stories from grown men and Gilson shot black-and-white photographs
of modern boys at play. Together, they tell a humorous, whimsical
and ultimately timeless story about the lives of boys. The photographs
and stories aren't meant to match exactly, but rather complement each
other. Some photos stand alone as do some of the stories.
Included in the book are many timeless photographs. There is a nostalgic
image of two boys playing cowboys and Indians that could be right
out of the 1950's. Other images are grittier, such as two boys smoking
cigarettes, or a group of boys pulling an innocent girls braids on
the playground. All the photographs included in Up To No Good evoke
a childhood lost. This book is meant to be a celebration of boyhood
and it's tendency to learn about the world by testing its limits.
